| This renovation in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City involved the complete reworking of a raw artists loft, including new mechanical systems, extensive sound proofing and structural work. Having lived and renovated an identical unit several floors above, the client had clearly formed goals - maximizing open living areas/natural light/views and exposing the existing structural columns and beams. Plan studies focused on private living spaces being organized around the perimeter of the building to achieve these goals. A spare palette of materials and minimal detailing were employed to enhance the natural qualities of the space. Wide plank white oak flooring runs continuously throughout the apartment, ornate stone slabs offer moments of focused materiality in the bathrooms and kitchen. Photography by Poul Ober |
